Xiaomi, a powerhouse known for its diverse range of products from smartphones to electric vehicles, is now reportedly venturing into the world of smartglasses. According to Chinese media outlet 36kr, the tech giant may soon unveil a rival to the Ray-Ban Meta smartglasses.
It’s speculated that Xiaomi is gearing up to release a new line of AI-enhanced smartglasses, crafted in partnership with Goertek. Goertek is a prominent OEM based in China, recognized for its extensive work with XR components and hardware designs.
These anticipated smartglasses from Xiaomi aim to stand head-to-head with Ray-Ban Meta. They’ll reportedly feature AI capabilities, integrated audio speakers, and built-in cameras. Interestingly, while Ray-Ban Meta isn’t officially available in the Chinese market, Xiaomi is keen on offering a comparable product.
The buzz, backed by insider information, suggests that Xiaomi plans to roll out these smartglasses by Q2 2025. It’s conceivable they might debut around the Mi Fan Festival in April, celebrating Xiaomi’s founding anniversary.
Xiaomi co-founder Lei Jun has high hopes for this launch, projecting sales of over 300,000 units. Though Xiaomi has previously explored the XR sector, highlighted by an AR glasses prototype at MWC 2023 and the earlier Mijia Glasses Camera, it hasn’t fully committed to this segment until now.
However, with the upcoming year poised to be significant for smartglasses in China, major players are keen to emulate the success Meta achieved with Ray-Ban. Baidu, for instance, announced its Xiaodu AI glasses at the Baidu World Conference on November 12th, slated for a first-half 2025 release in China.
Moreover, big names like OPPO, vivo, Huawei, Tencent, and ByteDance are also reportedly assessing their potential entries into the smartglasses domain. The competition is heating up, and all eyes are on how these brands will shape the future of wearable tech in China.
