Valve has rolled out the Steam Deck OLED to its certified refurbished lineup, and it’s quite the news for gaming enthusiasts. Now, you can snag a refurbished OLED model from Valve at a substantial discount, with prices slashed by 20% compared to brand-new units.
Under this program, you can pick up the 1TB and 512GB Steam Deck OLED models. The 1TB version comes in at $519, while the 512GB is priced at $439. In contrast, new models would set you back $649 and $549, respectively. That’s a cool $120 off for the 1TB and $110 less for the 512GB. Thanks to Valve’s pricing strategy, you can grab the 1TB OLED for $30 less than a fresh 512GB one.
The only new Steam Deck that beats the price of its refurbished OLED sibling is the previous generation’s 256GB LCD variant, which goes for $399. Although Valve offers refurbished LCD Steam Decks, they’re all sold-out across the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models. Additionally, you can’t buy new 512GB or 64GB LCD versions anymore.
The Steam Deck OLED is more than just a simple name change. Beyond replacing the LCD with an OLED screen, the display itself is boosted to a 90Hz refresh rate on a larger, 7.4-inch screen with HDR support, and it’s significantly brighter with 400 nits and a peak of 1000 nits in HDR mode. The older LCD version had a 7-inch screen without HDR support, a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz, and the same 400 nits brightness.
Inside, there are notable improvements too: the battery jumps from 40Whr to a 50Whr capacity, promising anywhere between 3 to 12 hours of playtime depending on the game, compared to 2-8 hours for the LCD model. Plus, RAM is upgraded from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to a zippier 6400 MT/s LPDDR5. The AMD APU also benefits from a smaller manufacturing process, moving from 7nm to 6nm.
You can find these refurbished Steam Deck OLEDs in select regions like Canada, the EU, the UK, and the US. Rest assured, each refurbished unit is backed by the same one-year warranty as a new device, though some regions might offer even longer coverage.
