We’re currently swimming in an ocean of new Star Wars projects, and guess what? There’s another one to add to the mix. Lucasfilm has reportedly struck a deal for a fresh trilogy, and the talented Simon Kinberg—whom you might know from his work on several X-Men movies—is set to write and produce it.
It seems we should make some room alongside The Mandalorian and Grogu, Dave Filoni’s Star Wars venture, Daisy Ridley’s rumored New Jedi Order project, and Donald Glover’s Lando series, because there’s a new Star Wars saga on the horizon that could hit our screens before long.
The buzz about this Simon Kinberg-led project comes from Deadline. They report that he’s working on a deal for three films, adding that Kinberg is no stranger to Star Wars, having co-created Star Wars Rebels with Filoni and Carrie Beck.
Deadline suggests that this new trilogy might be the continuation of the Skywalker saga—potentially episodes 10-12—picking up from where George Lucas’s seminal 1977 film left off. The last set of movies did stir up quite a bit of discussion, but not necessarily in the way people expected.
On the flip side, The Hollywood Reporter counters this with different insights, suggesting the trilogy won’t continue the Skywalker story. Instead, it’s expected to bring in new characters and unfold a brand-new narrative.
Kinberg’s resume speaks for itself, having worked on X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: Apocalypse. His scriptwriting journey has also taken him to projects like XXX: State of the Union, which swapped out Vin Diesel for Ice Cube in what was a peculiar twist for the cinema world back in 2005.
So, what are your thoughts on this potential new Star Wars trilogy? What are you hoping to see from it? And, just out of curiosity, did you get a kick out of XXX: State of the Union? Share your thoughts below!
