Studio Fizbin, the creative minds behind Reignbreaker, is set to close its doors later this month. The announcement came via a statement on their website, which was spotted by those following the industry closely. After Reignbreaker’s release on March 18th, the company will officially cease operations. Alexander Pieper, Studio Fizbin’s founder and CEO, explained that a major reason for this difficult decision is Thunderful’s choice to significantly cut back on internal development.
“These are tough times for the gaming industry, and like many other amazing studios, we’ve felt the impact,” Pieper shared in his message. He elaborated that last November, Thunderful—the parent company—opted for substantial cutbacks in in-house game development. Thunderful’s CEO, Martin, had already discussed these changes in the latest quarterly report, underscoring how they would affect Studio Fizbin. Since then, the team has pursued various opportunities to work on post-Reignbreaker. Unfortunately, none of these prospects will materialize, leaving the studio with no choice but to make this heartbreaking decision.
Pieper extended his gratitude, saying, “We are incredibly thankful to all our fans for every game purchase, piece of fan art, comment, review, and their boundless enthusiasm.” He didn’t forget the business partners either, expressing thanks to Medienboard, the MfG, Creative Europe, and federal funding bodies for their support.
In closing, he paid tribute to the talent behind the studio: “A huge thank you to our team—those standing with us until the end, and those who’ve ventured onto new paths. It’s our team that shaped Fizbin and its games, making it an extraordinary place to pull off the ultimate challenge: creating games.”
