Sony has just rolled out its yearly recap of the most downloaded games on its various PlayStation platforms for 2024. There hasn’t been much shuffle compared to the first year of PSVR 2, but honestly, that doesn’t really come as a shock.
The PSVR 2 headset is approaching its two-year mark, and while some critiques suggest Sony’s PS5-linked VR headset was somewhat overlooked since its launch in February 2023, due to the lack of exclusives and dedicated developer backing that we saw with the original PSVR, the die-hard fans of the headset might beg to differ.
When it comes down to it, PSVR 2 is a seriously powerful piece of tech. It enables developers to push rendering resolutions and visual complexities past what Meta’s current champion, Quest 3, offers. Plus, thanks to a wired adapter Sony released last June, it supports PC VR gaming, too. Yet, if we’re talking about which games are flying off the digital shelves on the PlayStation Store, the downloads tell the story.

The enduring favorite, Beat Saber (2018), snagged the top position in both North America and Europe. This isn’t a knock against the platform at all—it remains a game many would suggest to anyone new to VR.
When it came to titles launched in 2024, only Vertigo Games’ Metro Awakening managed to squeeze in, though it didn’t exactly have much time since its release in November 2024. Then there’s Urban Wolf Games’ Legendary Tales, marking its full release across major VR platforms in February 2024 after spending time in Early Access on Steam.
That said, we also shouldn’t overlook Vertigo Games’ ambitious zombie shooter sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2 (2023), which debuted in December 2023, leaving just under a month to make the cut for the previous year’s top downloads.
