Developer People Can Fly and Sony Interactive Entertainment just announced they’re teaming up on a fresh project tentatively called “Project Delta.” While the specifics of this project are shrouded in mystery, it hasn’t stopped PlayStation enthusiasts from speculating that a new SOCOM game might be on the horizon.
A keen Reddit user from the PS5 subreddit noticed that People Can Fly and Sony are collaborating to bring a new game to life, rooted in one of Sony’s existing IPs. Known for games like Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, the Polish developer’s involvement narrows down the possible PlayStation IPs. Over on the Reddit thread, many are betting on a new SOCOM title, though Killzone, Resistance, and Warhawk also entered the conversation.
One Redditor suggested, “It’s likely either SOCOM or Killzone because they mostly develop shooters,” while another pointed out, “Resistance could be a solid guess too.”
Another fan chimed in, “I wouldn’t mind a Warhawk reboot. That game had the potential to be as big as Fortnite, but Sony just didn’t seize the opportunity.”
Adding a dash of hope, one user commented, “Please God, let it be Resistance.”
Despite all the chatter, it’s important to remember that we’re merely speculating. For all we know, it could end up being a third-person shooter inspired by Knack. The true nature of the game might not be revealed for a couple more years.
For those unacquainted, SOCOM was a series of third-person tactical shooters that appeared on the PS2, PS3, and PSP. The latest in the series, SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy SEALs, launched back in 2011 to somewhat lukewarm reviews. According to Metacritic, the game earned an average score of 67 from 64 critic reviews, and the series has been on hiatus ever since.
