For the third time this year, indie publisher Reforged Studios has expanded its horizons with the acquisition of Yellow Lab Games. While the price tag remains a mystery, what’s clear is that this South African developer will maintain its autonomy, according to GI.biz. Fans eagerly anticipating the launch of Yellow Lab’s roguelite RPG, Metavoidal, can look forward to its release on Steam in the first quarter of 2025.
Reforged Studios has been on an acquisition spree recently, having snapped up Ground Shatter and Extra Mile Studios just last August.
Reflecting on his roots, Reforged’s CEO and founder Peter Van Der Watt shared, “Growing up in South Africa, I’ve always recognized the incredible talent within our game development community. Yellow Lab Games has been in my sights for some time, especially after witnessing the enthusiasm Metavoidal has garnered in its first step into the PC and console gaming space.”
Van Der Watt, who made the move to Scotland in 2011 to kickstart his own game studio, has long been a global advocate for South African game development. He continued, “Today, the entire Reforged board stands with me in believing in this region’s potential. The opportunity for David Hecker and his team to join us was one we couldn’t pass up. We are thrilled to welcome South Africa’s top gaming talent to Reforged and see this as just the start of a more extensive investment in Africa’s promising gaming landscape.”
