NVIDIA has found itself delving into an investigation following a wave of reports concerning some GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs ceasing to function properly, often referred to as "bricking."
NVIDIA Tackles the Issue of Non-Functional RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D GPUs
In recent days, a worrying trend has emerged, with multiple users reporting issues with their RTX 5090 GPUs, as well as the Chinese-specific variant, the RTX 5090D. Users have been tirelessly exploring troubleshooting methods, yet many find themselves stuck with the same persistent problem.
Although a handful of users have reportedly found success using unconventional methods, the majority are finding their GPUs unresponsive. The issue has become so prevalent that NVIDIA couldn’t ignore it any longer. According to PC Gamer, the company has responded with a succinct statement:
"We are investigating the reported issues with the RTX 50 series," an NVIDIA representative told PCGamer.
That’s the extent of what NVIDIA has shared so far, but it does indicate their awareness and initiation of an investigation. If you haven’t kept up with this unfolding issue, our earlier article provides a detailed account of what’s been happening. Essentially, owners of the RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D have encountered black screens and non-responsive displays, specifically following a driver update.
The problem seems widespread, cropping up immediately after the latest NVIDIA drivers are installed. It’s proving to be a challenging situation; even reverting to older driver versions in an attempt to resolve the issue has failed, leaving many systems unable to recognize the GPU. There have also been reports of users attempting to reset their BIOS without success; the graphics card remains invisible in both Device Manager and BIOS.
What exactly is causing these bricking issues remains a mystery. Speculation leans towards potential architectural or driver compatibility woes rather than a simple hardware malfunction. At this stage, all eyes are on NVIDIA for a definitive fix. Until they release further insights or solutions, it seems those affected will have to continue to wait and see.
