When it comes to hero shooters, my approach is pretty simple: I pick characters based on their cool factor. For instance, in Overwatch, I didn’t choose Zenyatta because he’s a healer, but because his design really appeals to me. So when I first saw Marvel Rivals, I was ready to apply the same strategy. Magneto and Venom, with their incredible designs, were immediate favorites. However, after watching the latest developer diary, my decision-making process has taken a turn. The game will provide stats on hero selection and win rates, making it easier than ever to choose my main hero from a stylish lineup.
With Marvel Rivals gearing up for its imminent launch, it’s crunch time for this multiplayer game. NetEase Games has been working hard to develop a worthy Overwatch competitor, and while presenting iconic characters might draw initial interest, it’s not a guaranteed ticket to long-term success. That’s why Marvel Rivals is shaking things up. All heroes are accessible from day one, and you’ll find destructible environments and more innovative features.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. A fresh developer video has revealed that players will have access to official stats on hero selections and victories, among other things.
“In response to your requests for comprehensive hero data, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be sharing the detailed game stats for our playable heroes on our official website at launch. This will provide everyone with a comprehensive overview,” says Marvel Rivals’ lead combat designer, Zhiyong Feng.
“We’re also preparing to release important combat stats like win rates and pick rates, but it’ll take a bit of time. Rest assured, we’ll gather this data meticulously post-launch and share these vital stats when the time is right.”
The pick rates will inform you about how frequently a hero is selected by all players, while the win rates will show how often that hero is on the victorious team.
Feng also spilled the beans on the full launch of Marvel Rivals, which comes with even more maps. Season Zero will roll out four new maps in the first month. Prepare to battle on two Wakanda-inspired maps—Birnin T’Challa and Hall of Djalia—alongside the Hydra Charteris Base, and an intriguing symbiotic map named Klyntar. These maps boast dynamic elements that require quick thinking and strategy adjustments mid-game, promising unique experiences with every match.
Furthermore, we gained insights into NetEase’s continuous efforts to combat cheating as Marvel Rivals prepares for launch. Penalties are already being enforced on some beta players, and Feng notes cheats are used in less than 1% of games. He speaks of “significant progress” in their anti-cheat technology.
Ahead of the game’s launch, make sure you’re familiar with all the Marvel Rivals characters, as well as the anticipated start date for Marvel Rivals Season 1.
