We’re in the process of putting together a review for Loco Motive, so I reached out to Adam from Robust Games to learn more about the game and its development journey. Join us as we dive into the details!
PS4Blog: Morning! Thanks for sparing some time for this chat. Can you start by giving our readers a little introduction about you and what you do?
Adam: Of course! I’m Adam Riches, the creative mastermind and co-founder of Robust Games. We’ve just rolled out our first major project, Loco Motive!
PS4B: With that said, Loco Motive is now available on the Nintendo Switch. What insights can you share about the game?
Adam: We spent a significant amount of time fine-tuning controller support to ensure it feels fantastic on the Switch. Honestly, playing it in handheld mode has quickly become our favorite way to enjoy the game!
PS4B: How long did it take to develop the game? How did it evolve from the original game jam version to the adventure we can now play on Nintendo’s platform?
Adam: We officially kicked off development in June 2021, and the game hit the shelves in late November 2024, taking us just under three and a half years. The most significant change from the game jam prototype was expanding the story and adding more playable characters. The game jam version was about an hour long, but the final release offers around 10-12 hours of gameplay. We kept lots of elements from the original, like the characters and puzzles, but the increased scope allowed us to dive deeper into their complexity.
PS4B: Is there any possibility of a physical Nintendo Switch release for Loco Motive? It would be fantastic to include an instruction booklet, art book, or a behind-the-scenes look!
Adam: We’re really excited about the idea of a physical release for Loco Motive and fully support it, but we can’t make any guarantees at this point.
PS4B: It looks like we’ve covered everything. Anything else you’d like to add before we wrap up?
Adam: We just want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s played Loco Motive since its launch, those who’ve left reviews on Steam, or recommended it to a buddy. Being a small indie team, we thrive on word of mouth, and your support is incredibly important to us!
