Epic Games is shaking things up with Fortnite’s Battle Pass, announcing a soon-to-come price increase for their standard pass. This news was laid out by the gaming giant on their website, touching on several updates that include new features for those subscribed to Fortnite Crew. However, the part that will catch the eye of most battle royale enthusiasts is the slight bump in the cost of the Battle Pass. Historically set at 950 V-Bucks, come December 1, the price will nudge up to 1,000 V-Bucks.
IGN is currently seeking further comments from Epic Games regarding these changes.
In a first for the company, Epic has decided to tweak Battle Pass pricing, though they assure players that the cost of their in-game currency, V-Bucks, will stay the same. As of now, you can still pick up 1,000 V-Bucks on the Epic Games Store for $8.99. Players can also earn additional V-Bucks by progressing through Battle Pass levels. To ease the price adjustment, the cost of the 25 Battle Pass Reward Bundle will see a slight reduction from 1,850 to 1,800 V-Bucks.
This series of adjustments is landing just before the highly awaited Fortnite OG: Chapter 1 – Season 1, which is slated for a December 6 release. As part of this nostalgic shift, the $12.99 Fortnite Crew package is becoming even more appealing with new offerings. Currently, this bundle includes perks like the standard Fortnite Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks, monthly Crew Pack outfits, plus bonuses like the Rocket League Premium Rocket Pass. From December 1, it will also feature the Music Pass and LEGO Pass, all without hiking the price for subscribers.
These enhancements are designed to encourage players to stay engaged with Epic’s gaming universe. Notably, earning XP across any associated games will contribute to progressing all battle passes. A Crew subscription brings access to upcoming passes, like the mysterious Fortnite OG Pass, whenever they drop.
Nevertheless, there’s a catch for newcomers to Fortnite Crew post-December 1. They won’t be able to unlock premium rewards from the passes if their subscription ends. That means if you sign up and then cancel, you’ll only have access to rewards for the remainder of the billing cycle. For those currently subscribed and staying on board, they will continue to enjoy benefits from any active Battle Passes.
Epic Games is charting a new path as it preps for the nostalgic Fortnite OG mode. Currently, we are in the throes of Chapter 5: Season 5, set to wrap up with the launch of Chapter 6: Season 1 next month. While we await deeper insights into the new chapter’s theme and content, it might be the perfect time to explore the Fortnite-themed PlayStation 5 DualSense controller that hit the shelves earlier this month.
