On March 18, Fallout 76 is embracing a thrilling evolution with its Ghoul Within and Season 20 update, introducing the franchise’s first-ever playable Ghoul character. Players who choose to transform their character into a Ghoul will unlock a variety of new build-crafting tools and combat mechanics. Over time, these transformations promise to deliver unique world and quest interactions. However, players should be patient, as these fresh Ghoul interactions will gradually be rolled out in upcoming updates. For now, expect existing quests to remain untouched by new Ghoul-specific encounters, making the initial experience primarily combat-focused.
Initially, players might find the shift to a Ghoul character somewhat jarring, given the limited impact on gameplay outside of battles. As updates roll out, this should change for the better. To ease players into the transition, introducing a new Ghoul CAMP ally could have been a smart move. Unfortunately, with the Season 20 SCORE rewards already set in stone and no Ghoul CAMP ally included, this opportunity seems to have slipped by.
The game has unveiled an exciting new buff for Power Armor as part of the Season 20 updates, which could significantly shake up endgame build strategies.
While the latest update introduces a fascinating questline and characters, it falls short in terms of new interactions for Ghoul players. This gap is understandable, considering the logistical challenge of revising years of past content to accommodate this new character type. Transforming into a Ghoul, available once players hit level 50, opens the door to these new opportunities, but existing CAMP allies won’t offer any new interactions for Ghoul players—a missed chance to make this transition smoother. A new Ghoul CAMP ally could’ve eased players through this process.
Fallout 76 has been in need of fresh CAMP allies for a while now. The game could benefit from more engaging companions like Beckett and Sofia Daguerre, known for their rich storylines and potential for romance, unlike the more limited “lite” CAMP allies. Before the Ghoul playable character was announced, there was already a demand for more complex NPCs.
With Season 20 bringing Ghoul-themed rewards, it might be some time before we see similar content again. This season was ideally set up to introduce a new Ghoul CAMP ally, but the opportunity wasn’t seized. However, given the demand for new CAMP allies and the benefits they would provide to Ghoul player characters, Bethesda should consider adding one in future updates. There’s no time like the present to enhance Fallout 76’s immersive world by inviting more diverse and engaging characters into players’ CAMPs.
