Naughty Dog’s creative lead, Neil Druckmann, recently shared a light-hearted remark about the studio’s latest PS5 project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. In discussing the game’s themes, Druckmann acknowledged how some of their past creative choices, particularly in The Last of Us Part II, stirred up significant controversy.
During an engaging conversation with Alex Garland, known for writing 28 Days Later, Druckmann revealed how he often quips with his team about the subjects they’re tackling in Intergalactic. He remarked that they’re focusing on topics that might be seen as less provocative.
He shared, "I kid with the team that, with The Last of Us 2, we went places that triggered a lot of strong reactions. Many people appreciated it, but it also drew plenty of criticism." Garland humorously interjected with, "who gives a s****," which prompted Druckmann to clarify that this very sentiment is at the heart of their inside joke.
Embracing the humor, Druckmann continued, "The running joke is, ‘let’s dive into something that might ruffle fewer feathers.’ How about a game centered around faith and religion?"
The exchange with Garland is intriguing, especially considering the current global climate where discussions on faith and religion aren’t exactly devoid of tension.
For now, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is progressing in development, poised to bring its unique narrative to life on the PS5.
