Virtuix is stepping up their game in the world of virtual reality with a fresh offering: an immersive tourism app for their Omni One VR treadmill. This new app promises to take you on a virtual stroll through some of the globe’s most celebrated destinations.
Launching on March 6th for their Omni One all-in-one system, the app, aptly named TREKS, fuses captivating immersive video with genuine physical motion. So, whether you’re in the mood to meander through the awe-inspiring trails of the Grand Canyon, enjoy a virtual jaunt around New York’s Central Park, or wander through the historic walls of Fort Masmak in Riyadh, TREKS has got you covered.
Coming straight from Virtuix Studios, the app will make its home on the Omni One Game Store with a price tag of $30. Initially, it will roll out with four spectacular locations:
- Grand Canyon: Traverse the iconic trails and take in the breathtaking view of the sprawling cliffs.
- Niagara Falls: Feel the raw power and beauty of the falls from both the American and Canadian perspectives.
- New York City: Get a virtual taste of the Big Apple, stopping by landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Central Park, and the Brooklyn Bridge.
- Saudi Arabia: Step into the historic depths of Fort Masmak and marvel at the architectural wonder of the Al Rajhi Mosque.
Virtuix Studios doesn’t plan to stop there. In the months ahead, they’re set to expand this virtual world with additional locations as downloadable content. These are set to feature yet more landmarks, historic sites, and stunning natural wonders, keeping the adventure fresh. The company also highlights the app’s fitness perks, noting that an hour of walking in TREKS can burn up to 500 calories.
“With TREKS, you’re not just watching these destinations—you’re moving through them,” enthuses Jan Goetgeluk, CEO of Virtuix. “It’s a fantastic way to stay active while exploring some of the world’s most iconic places. Fitness and adventure go hand in hand, and TREKS brings that to life in a whole new way.”
Now, if the idea of entering these digital landscapes intrigues you, keep in mind that the Omni One system itself is priced at $3,495. It comes complete with the VR treadmill and a tailored Pico 4 Enterprise headset, which allows you to dive into native apps through its internal chipset or connect to a VR-ready PC, whether it’s wired or wireless.
Just last month, Virtuix announced that Omni One now supports over 55 game titles. Among these are notable hits like the Arizona Sunshine Remake, its sequel, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Into The Radius.
Moreover, even if a game isn’t specifically crafted for immersive walking, Omni One’s system doesn’t hold back. Thanks to its Omni Connect PC Driver, it’s fully compatible with SteamVR games. This handy tool enables players like you to configure custom bindings and tweak settings, ensuring a seamless experience as you dive into these digital escapades.
