In a delightful nod to nostalgia, EA and Maxis have unveiled a treat for long-time Sims enthusiasts as they commemorate the series’ 25th anniversary. Indeed, those whispers about re-releasing the first two Sims games were spot on, and you can purchase them starting today.
Rumors had swirled that EA planned to launch these classic titles digitally for PCs by the end of January. True to form, they’ve done just that, dropping the news on January 31—a Friday, no less, perfect for some weekend gaming!
These reissues have been labeled The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. They’re available through the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam, and even come bundled in the special Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
“We’re thrilled to celebrate our heritage and honor our amazing fans by bringing back two beloved games,” EA shared in their announcement. “These games feature iconic neighborhoods and characters, like the mischievous burglar, the whimsical genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown, who were there at the beginning of our journey. Step back into the nostalgia and magic of the games that opened the doors to our incredible community.”
Price-wise, you’re looking at $39.99 for the bundle, $19.99 if you just want The Sims: Legacy Collection, and $29.99 for The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. On the expansion pack front, it seems most of the original add-ons are included. However, The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack seems to have been left out, which is somewhat disappointing.
In a minor consolation, you’ll find two holiday packs in the re-release of The Sims 2, along with the H&M Fashion Stuff pack, offering a dash of commercial flair. Additionally, both re-releases come with unique Throwback Fit and Grunge Revival kits for The Sims 4. If these weren’t already part of your collection, now’s your chance!
So, if you’re tired of lounging in the quirky “meme jacuzzi” section of the peculiar Sims Y2K website that EA created for this occasion, maybe it’s time to dry off and indulge in these classic re-releases!
