As enthusiasts of the hugely popular Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition transition to the refreshed D&D 2024, many have noticed that some beloved subclasses didn’t make the cut in this streamlined update. Polygon, among others, has showered praise on the latest changes, yet even the most flexible of players might be reluctant to part ways with cherished characters whose subclasses weren’t officially carried over. But worry not, brave adventurer! A group of independent designers has stepped up to create Subclasses Revivified, offering a solution for those nostalgic at heart.
This supplement boasts almost 70 revamped subclasses, covering a broad spectrum, including 10 Cleric Domains, nine Wizard schools, six fighter subclasses, and more. It addresses all official subclasses that the new Player’s Handbook left behind. Instead of forcing players to abandon their characters or settle for ill-fitting builds, this comprehensive 109-page guide provides D&D fans the opportunity to breathe new life into their 5e characters.
The project is the brainchild of 14 seasoned tabletop designers with extensive experience crafting third-party D&D content, along with contributions to games for companies like MCDM, Evil Hat, and Cubicle 7. Subclasses Revivified isn’t just a cash grab. As shared in an interview with Destructoid, designer Sebastian Yūe mentioned that project lead Adam Hancock motivated the team “to innovate and to tackle any pain points with existing subclasses.”
In addition to making these subclasses compatible with D&D 2024, the designers rolled out what they call “quality of life updates.” This involves starting all subclasses at third level, ensuring power levels remain balanced across classes, and aligning mechanics more closely with each subclass’s theme. The language, formatting, and style have also been updated to reflect the new 2024 terminology, using expressions like “D20 Tests” and “Emanations.”
Available as a PDF, Subclasses Revivified can be found for $27.95 on DriveThruRPG, where it has already ascended to Silver Best Seller status. Curious players can preview the first 40 pages on the site, and discounted versions are offered for those who find the full price out of reach.
