More than 27 years after it first made its debut, the beloved PS1 classic, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, is staging a comeback on the PS5 and PS4. This remastered edition of the 3D platformer will be available for all modern platforms starting Wednesday, April 2.
In an exciting development, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is also slated for a physical release on the PS5. Initially set to debut digitally, fans of the game will get the chance to snag physical copies for both the PS5 and Nintendo Switch in the second quarter of 2025. The original creators, Argonaut Games, are at the helm of this remaster project.
Argonaut expressed their enthusiasm in a press release, saying, “We’re delighted to reintroduce Croc: Legend of the Gobbos to a new audience. Our team has put in a tremendous effort to retain the original game’s charm while integrating modern updates that enhance the experience on today’s consoles and PCs.”
For those who might not remember, Croc was one of the early ventures into 3D platformers, launching back in 1997. Although initial reviews were a mixed bag—GameRevolution, a sister site to PSLS, notably gave it a B grade—the game found commercial success and cultivated a dedicated fanbase. Its sequel, Croc 2, followed in 1999.
The game centers around a heartfelt adventure where players guide an adorable, small crocodile named Croc. Armed with nothing more than his recognizable backpack and a distinctive wiggly walk, Croc ventures through diverse worlds. The journey involves running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and executing tail spins, all in a noble quest to save his adopted family, the Gobbos, from the clutches of the villainous sorcerer, Baron Dante, and his mischievous Dantini minions.
