Today, I’m thrilled to introduce you to our latest venture, Bioframe Outpost, which is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
Console Magic Dust
Launching a game on a console is always a memorable experience for me. While I have a deep appreciation for PC and mobile gaming, and have a history of releasing games on those platforms, there’s an undeniable charm in seeing your game’s logo pop up on a large television, energized by a dedicated gaming console. There’s nothing quite like that feeling.
With Bioframe Outpost, we’ve made it our mission to capture that console magic. Although the game is crafted with modern features like enhanced replayability, smooth controls, and an engaging user experience, it’s also a nod to the classic games that embody that unique console spirit.
Putting It in the Frame
What I love most about console gaming is when games bring fresh and innovative experiences to the table. There was an era in console gaming, before skyrocketing development budgets and the intense focus on 3D rendering, when innovation was at its peak. Developers weren’t afraid to take risks, constantly surprising players with unprecedented concepts.
The Oddworld series was a perfect example, introducing us to talking, bug-based ammo in Stranger’s Wrath and mind-bending mechanics in Abe’s Odyssey. And there were countless titles from that era—like Halo: Combat Evolved, Rez, Metal Gear Solid, GTA, Tetris, and Virtua Fighter—that left a significant mark, largely because of their groundbreaking ideas.
In creating Bioframe Outpost, we’ve aimed to innovate by equipping players with unconventional gameplay tools that enable endless and often hilarious outcomes.
The Camera
A key feature we’re excited about is the powerful Camera/PDA combo at your disposal. This isn’t just any camera—it can document creature behaviors like eating, fleeing, recharging, and attacking. Successfully capturing these behaviors can be tricky and hazardous, but each snapshot provides invaluable PDA insights that you can use to your advantage.
Additionally, with each documented behavior, the camera’s stunning effect increases, allowing you a greater ability to interact with this richly diverse ecosystem. Picture this: entice a giant Rainbow Wasp into a Spider Hunter’s territory and watch the chaos unfold, or snag a Sticky Glow Orb from a Laser Plant, attach it to a cave-dwelling Lizard, and suddenly you have a scouting companion lighting up the darkness for you.
The game’s ecosystem is complex and nuanced, leading to some surprisingly emergent behaviors. The balance between risk and reward keeps you engaged and drives the core gameplay loop.
This loop thrives on knowledge and stun power, unlocking new strategies to manipulate your environment. Exploration and experimentation aren’t just encouraged—they’re deeply woven into the fabric of the game.
It’s incredibly fun and sometimes quite challenging. Ever tried getting a snapshot of an enraged Giant Rainbow Wasp? Other quirky tools also add to the unpredictability. (Trust me, the Fire Extinguisher is a riot.)
Other Console Magics
Innovation is crucial, but we also delight in the way classic console games draw players into their worlds for hours on end. Unlike many modern mobile titles that are quick to complete, classic games held players’ attention without relying on multiplayer aspects.
Bioframe Outpost is designed to be vast, replayable, and entertaining for spectators, allowing players to dive into its world for extended sessions. The world of Bioframe is filled with secrets, side quests, Easter eggs, humorous nods, and endless possibilities for interaction.
