AMD has put a lid on any speculation about the development of a Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card equipped with 32 GB of memory.
Frank Azor Clears the Air on RX 9070 XT’s Memory Capacity
Recently, buzz about AMD possibly releasing a 32 GB version of the RX 9070 XT made rounds, fueled by a leak from Chiphell. This rumor suggested that the GPU would be part of AMD’s ‘Gaming’ series rather than its PRO lineup, leaving many enthusiasts hopeful for a more powerful version. However, AMD’s Frank Azor stepped in to dispel these speculations. In response to a post by Techpowerup on X (formerly known as Twitter), Azor made it clear:
“There’s no 32 GB variant of the 9070 XT card in the pipeline,” he stated on February 13, 2025.
As it stands, the Radeon RX 9070 XT will feature 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Given the existing capabilities of the chip, doubling the memory to 32 GB wouldn’t significantly enhance gaming performance. Earlier rumors had hinted at a design geared toward both AI applications and gaming, but it seems such plans are on ice.
So far, AMD hasn’t delved into the territory of offering a gaming GPU with 32 GB of memory, particularly because the upper-mid range segment wouldn’t truly utilize such an extensive capacity. It’s doubtful we’ll see more than 16 GB in AMD’s RDNA 4 lineup, as the RX 9070 XT is pegged to be the top card based on the Navi 48 architecture.
Looking at other models, the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44 will likely carry lower specifications and, consequently, offer lesser performance. AMD is all set to unveil the RX 9000 series on February 28, where we can expect to get all the official details on specifications, pricing, and performance.
Following its big reveal, AMD plans for the retail release to hit shelves in early March. Interestingly, NVIDIA is also gearing up to launch its GeForce RTX 5070 GPU around the same timeframe. Azor previously mentioned that AMD’s 70-class GPUs are designed to challenge NVIDIA’s equivalent models head-on. So, the upcoming release periods promise an exciting showdown in performance between the RX 9070 XT and its competitors like the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 5070.
