While Secret Level might not have been everyone’s cup of tea, it certainly drew in the crowds. Amazon has decided to bring it back for another round with a second season.
Video game adaptations are hitting a winning streak this year. We’ve seen hits like Fallout and Arcane making waves upon their releases, and now Secret Level seems to be riding that same wave of success. According to Variety, Amazon announced that Secret Level became Prime Video’s most-watched animated debut within its first week.
As is often the case, Amazon hasn’t released the exact viewer numbers. However, Luminate did some math and reported that the series was viewed for 155.3 million minutes in the U.S. during its debut week. If you think about it, that’s roughly 1.4 million views, considering the series runs for just 109 minutes.
I have to admit, the buzz around Secret Level leaves me a bit baffled. Personally, I found the show a bit lacking in substance, like it was more about making a quick buck rather than offering something unique. Even though it didn’t quite sell me on the games it featured, I found it amusing that next year, there’ll be a video game adaptation of that peculiar Pac-Man episode!
The boom in video game adaptations is undeniable. Shows like Fallout are quickly securing second seasons—production is already underway—and even games that slipped under the radar, like Sega’s Eternal Champions, are getting their shot at adaptation. Who would have thought that video games, with their vast array of stories, would become prime candidates for TV shows and movies? It’s like a treasure trove of content just waiting to be tapped.
