Gaijin Entertainment, a name already familiar to fans of War Thunder (released back in 2013), is preparing to release its latest venture into the skies. Introducing Aces of Thunder, an exhilarating aerial combat game designed exclusively for VR, set to swoop onto both PSVR 2 and PC VR headsets later this year.
Unveiled to eager gamers in 2023, Aces of Thunder was initially marked on the calendar for a Q4 2024 debut, promising a dazzling array of some of the most iconic airplanes from the World Wars to grace platforms like SteamVR and PSVR 2.
Up until now, Gaijin has tantalized fans not only with an impressive lineup of World War II aircraft but has also expanded the roster to include legendary planes from World War I.
Iconic aircraft such as the Fokker Dr.I—infamously piloted by the Red Baron—and the SPAD S.XIII, which was the choice ride of René Fonck, the Allies’ most lauded ace, are detailed with painstaking precision. Gaijin assures that these historical warbirds will feature intricately modeled cockpits, period-accurate weapons, and authentic flight dynamics, all crafted to deliver a deeply immersive experience.
This is on top of the featured WWII planes like the American legends, the P-51 Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra, along with Germany’s Bf 109 and Fw 190. Not to mention, the Soviet IL-2, British Spitfire, and Japanese A6M3 Zero, all making their return to virtual skies.
While the exact release date remains a mystery, Gaijin has shared with Road to VR that Aces of Thunder is now targeting a 2025 launch. In anticipation of its arrival, enthusiasts can add the game to their wishlist on Steam and the PlayStation Store, ensuring they’re first in line for updates.
Though pricing details are still under wraps, rest assured, we’re on high alert, eagerly scanning for any updates or news regarding the release of Aces of Thunder.
