Valve isn’t diving into a brand-new Steam Deck successor just yet, but they are set to release something exciting soon—a special limited edition Steam Deck OLED in white.
Named the “Steam Deck OLED: Limited Edition White,” this sleek new model keeps the same specifications as the existing 1TB version but comes with a $30 increase in price, bringing it to $679. You can snag one of these devices when they hit the market next Monday, on November 18.
Besides arriving in an eye-catching white and gray finish, this edition includes a white carrying case and a microfiber cleaning cloth to keep everything pristine.
This isn’t Valve’s first foray into playing with colors. Previously, they unveiled a limited edition Steam Deck OLED with a translucent smoky shell, which sold out quite rapidly despite some reports of minor aesthetic cracks. Now, this fresh white version will be available wherever the Steam Deck is sold, covering regions from the United States to Europe and as far as Australia, Japan, and several parts of Asia, courtesy of their partner Komodo. Stocks will be distributed evenly across all these areas.
To combat scalpers, Valve has put a restriction on orders, limiting them to just one white Steam Deck per account. Also, your existing Steam account must show at least one purchase before November 2024.
Valve mentioned in a press release that this new limited edition may guide their future color decisions: “We’re eager to see the public’s reaction and will use this insight to help us plan new color variants in the future.”
Of course, if you’re not keen on the limited edition, you still have options—brands like Jsaux and dbrand offer alternate backplates and skins. But if you want to stick with authenticity, grab this version directly from Valve while supplies last.
Looking ahead, Valve hinted at promising developments for the Deck, mentioning efforts on alternative color schemes, ongoing software enhancements, and larger hardware initiatives.
Judging from the images, there’s an intriguing blend reminiscent of the Wii U’s aesthetic merged with an iPod’s sleekness. It’ll be interesting to see if this striking new design convinces current Steam Deck owners to consider an upgrade.
