Sony’s Hiroki Totoki has confidently stated that the $700 price point of the PS5 Pro—along with the option to purchase special attachments like a separate disc drive—hasn’t deterred its success among gamers. The console, which does not accommodate current PS5 faceplates, is specifically designed for “hardcore users,” a group that seems unfazed by these costs.
According to industry watcher Genki, Totoki expressed no significant concern over the console’s pricing or its market performance. Sony is notably not experiencing any negative feedback in sales figures, contrary to what one might expect given the hefty price tag.
In a tweet shared by Genki, Totoki reiterated the idea that the PS5 Pro is tailored for committed gamers who seek the ultimate gaming experience, regardless of the cost. While many might have speculated on potential backlash due to pricing, this hasn’t materialized to any notable extent.
Interestingly, the PS5 Pro is not facing the same issues with scalpers as its predecessor did during the infamous chip shortages. Back then, scalpers were successfully flipping the original PS5s for significant profits, which also affected the PlayStation Portal. However, the resale value of the PS5 Pro isn’t proving as lucrative. This has led early scalpers to offload their units at market value or sometimes even lower, just to clear inventory.
