During their latest financial report, Sony Group shared some exciting news: starting in 2025, they’re planning to roll out major PlayStation exclusives annually, beginning with “Ghost of Yotei.” This announcement came during the company’s presentation of the second-quarter financial results for fiscal year 2024, which concluded on September 30.
Sony’s focus on developing new PlayStation exclusives is advancing nicely, they say. However, they also hinted at a dip in sales and profits during the latter half of the current fiscal year due to a scarcity of major game releases. This contrasts with last year’s line-up, where titles like “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” (launched in October 2023) and “Helldivers 2” (released in February 2024) significantly boosted their financials.
“We’re making consistent progress with our new game developments, as well as refining our live service game operations,” Sony shared. They added, “Starting with ‘Ghost of Yotei,’ a sequel to the phenomenal ‘Ghost of Tsushima,’ we aim to put out major single-player titles yearly, beginning with the next fiscal year.”
This dedication to single-player experiences is likely to please many fans. Sony pointed out in the presentation that PlayStation Studios are often more successful with single-player hits than with multiplayer ones.
Meanwhile, Insomniac Games is busy working on “Marvel’s Wolverine,” and fans are eagerly awaiting fresh intellectual properties from studios like Naughty Dog and Santa Monica Studio.
