Zombie Army VR’s release has been pushed back to next year.
Originally set to debut in 2024 on Quest, PC VR, and PlayStation VR2, the publisher Rebellion has now announced that the latest installment in the Sniper Elite spin-off series will be postponed to 2025. Although the exact reason for the delay hasn’t been disclosed, it aligns with recent news of developer XR Games undergoing significant restructuring.
Here’s the official statement from Rebellion:
“After much deliberation, we’ve made the difficult choice to postpone the release of Zombie Army VR. Our goal is to ensure fans get the best possible gaming experience, so now the game will come out in 2025. We understand this might be disheartening for fans, and we appreciate your continued support and patience.”
This announcement comes on the heels of a somewhat tepid reception at Gamescom 2024. While we found it to be a fun action-packed shooter with solid gunplay, our preview of the PlayStation VR2 version pointed out some drawbacks like a “tedious” boss fight, challenges with item interaction, and its resemblance to flatscreen games.
Zombie Army VR joins a growing list of VR games facing delays. Some, like Skydance’s Behemoth, DIG VR, and Starship Troopers: Continuum, are seeing shorter delays of just a few weeks. Others, such as Wanderer: The Fragments of Fate, have no scheduled release date at all, and Alien: Rogue Incursion is not set to launch on Quest 3 as initially planned for next month.
Fans can expect Zombie Army VR to be available on PS VR2, Quest, and PC VR in 2025.
