Did you ever find yourself in one of those odd situations where everyone else seems to be in on something fantastic, except you? That’s me right now with this whole hullabaloo about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake. I mean, they’re calling it a remaster, but let’s be real, it’s more of a remake. Anyway, so it just surged to the top of the Steam Top Sellers list. More than 100,000 players have jumped in, and it’s climbing fast like nobody’s business.
Get this—I paused to grab a sandwich, and during that brief, very necessary break, the player count went up by like, 18,000. Boom. Just like that. 144,000 players in total now. Does anyone work during the day anymore? I swear, it seemed like everyone in Europe has the day off just to play this game. Meanwhile, here in America, most of us are still hunched over in our cubicles, just waiting for freedom. My brother-in-law texted me whining about how today was the worst day to be in the office. He’s one of those people who randomly decides to actually go in every now and then.
Oh, there’s a picture floating around of some reptilian-looking character—an Argonian, I think—hanging out in Oblivion. Can’t wait to break into all those digital shops in the game. They’ve jazzed up the graphics, but also keep that nostalgic charm. It’s kinda exciting, isn’t it?
Some folks are speculating just how high that player count will go once us poor, desk-bound souls punch out. Can it outdo Skyrim or Starfield? Those hit around, what, 280k and 330k players? I don’t know, but there’s this growing buzz that’s hard to ignore. And it’s not even counting the folks on Game Pass, might end up adding heaps more to those numbers. I wonder when Microsoft’s going to drop some official stats. Probably any day now.
You know what else is looming on the release calendar? Clair Obscur Expedition 33 and Forza Horizon 5. Bit of rotten luck for them, right? Dropping a game right alongside a colossal Elder Scrolls release. If there’s a gaming version of a traffic jam, this is it. Though Forza’s off to PlayStation, which might mean they lose some players swayed by Oblivion’s allure.
Jumping back to Oblivion, who’s diving into that world right now? Come on, admit it. Maybe you’re already closing gates or planning to soon. I’m burnt out just thinking about how everyone’s going to get swept up in this—perhaps forever forgotten sequels are getting benched for a joyride through Cyrodiil.
Anyway, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered—it’s on PC, Xbox Series X|S, all the newfangled stuff. You can get in on the action right now if you want to. But seriously, what part of the remaster are you itching to explore first? Because I might not sleep!
