Path of Exile 2, developed by Grinding Gear Games, has hit a bump in the road with its recent reviews on Steam, slipping to a “Mixed” status following the latest content release called Dawn of the Hunt. The update introduced a fresh playable class and overhauled the endgame, but players have expressed dissatisfaction, particularly citing the slow progression and performance hiccups as reasons for their negative feedback.
Initially, Path of Exile 2 launched in December 2024 under Early Access, showcasing only a portion of its intended full content. Early feedback was encouraging, as players appreciated the advancements made from the original game, yet understood there was still much development ahead. However, as the Early Access journey unfolds, the community has become quite vocal about their concerns, voicing them directly to the developers.
In response to the Dawn of the Hunt update, players are particularly frustrated with a perceived necessity to adhere to ‘meta’ builds to progress effectively. Steam user vuthia commented that the update transformed the game into a “slog fest” due to this pressure, and user Hellexion noted that the boss battles felt unnecessarily prolonged, with many skills offering negligible damage.
Though some hotfixes have been rolled out by Grinding Gear Games, these patches haven’t fully addressed the central complaints yet. Additionally, the lack of a clear Early Access roadmap leaves players uncertain about the future developments planned for the game. On the bright side, the Early Access phase provides ample opportunity for improvements. There’s hope that future updates will return those reviews to their former glory.
