Alta, the creative minds behind “A Township Tale,” recently offered a sneak peek into their latest project, a dungeon-crawler extraction game titled REAVE. During their revealing showcase, they detailed various elements still under development, including a fresh environment and a fearsome foe.
The latest developer update introduces players to expansive new areas, the standout being ‘The Fallen Bastion.’ This vast chamber is the most significant space in REAVE so far, featuring a mix of open and confined areas. Sean Ellis, the lead environment artist, explained, “We’ve crafted spaces that are perfect for ambushing other players or sneaking past adversaries, with lighting that shifts from bright to incredibly dark.”
At the heart of this area stands a magical pedestal, which serves as the entry point for players to initiate dramatic encounters, such as a boss fight with a massive spider. The current spider boss is a placeholder, but developers are using it to refine the boss battle experience as they develop more tailored challenges.
The development team is actively refining many parts of the game, which they disclosed in the dev log, pointing out continuous upgrades and acknowledging that some features might be completely altered before the final release.
In addition, the team shared a glimpse of a new adversary that’s set to replace older placeholder models. This new enemy comes in various levels of difficulty, determined by their gear.
REAVE stands out with its innovative use of in-game currency known as ‘Echoes.’ Players earn Echoes by defeating enemies and can also find them scattered throughout the game world. This currency motivates players to explore, battle, and ultimately use Echoes to unlock loot rooms or facilitate their escape from dungeons back to safety, where they can trade their acquired goods.
Those interested in participating in the game’s testing phase can join the game’s Discord server for a chance at one of the limited tester slots. While there’s no official launch date yet, Alta plans to make REAVE available for Quest 2 and PC VR headsets.
