Just last week, NetEase gave us a heads-up about their playful plan for April Fools’ Day: introducing a Venom twerk emote in Marvel Rivals. We weren’t sure if they were pulling our leg, but we went ahead and reported on it anyway, fingers crossed it wasn’t just a ruse.
Turns out, it’s very real, and it’s taken the Marvel Rivals community by storm. The introduction of the emote has led to an amusing phenomenon where battles pause and players get caught up in spontaneous Venom dance-offs. The internet is now peppered with videos of these impromptu twerk sessions, so entertaining they could bring any intense showdown to a standstill.
Today marks the first opportunity for players to snag this emote as a reward in-game, and unsurprisingly, many have jumped at the chance. The Marvel Rivals subreddit is buzzing with videos featuring eye-catching titles like “Venom’s Got the Moves… and Quick Play is Losing It” and “Thought I was the main character…then Venom started throwing it back…”
In-game skirmishes now often feature Venom stopping to dance alone, with a partner, or even in larger groups. Other players, meanwhile, either try to join in, shield themselves as Groot to avoid the spectacle, or if playing as Luna, they might whip out her DJ emote to keep up the groove.
Speaking of Luna, there’s already a push from players urging NetEase to turn her deck-shuffling into a continuous emote, to pair perfectly with Venom’s dance antics.
Curious about the impact of all this tomfoolery on actual matches? Besides irking a few purists who bemoan the temporary pause in the game’s usual pace, one player sums up the situation perfectly: “Venom’s emote isn’t just for giggles — it’s a strategic diversion.” While opponents are mesmerized, attentive teammates have a golden opportunity for an easy takedown.
For those looking to join in on the fun, the emote is available from 1 AM GMT/8 PM ET on April 1/March 31, running till April 4 at 1 AM GMT/8 PM ET on April 3.
So, does Venom’s twerking rank as the best or worst addition to Marvel Rivals? Jump into the discussion and share your take!
