Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies is once more sparking excitement with the upcoming release of Shattered Veil, despite the mix of opinions surrounding The Tomb and some fan dissatisfaction over changes to Samantha Maxis’s character. On April 2, gamers will be transported into a Mansion that many recognized from the Liberty Falls intro, integral to the ongoing Dark Aether storyline. This setting promises to delve into fan-favorite characters and elements like Edward Richtofen and the Order from the Chaos arc. Noteworthy features include iconic sights such as a T-Rex skeleton and new adversaries like Toxic Zombies and Elder Disciples. To fend off these challenges, players will have at their disposal the Wunderwaffe DG-2 and the Ray Gun Mark 2, both making a much-anticipated return.
The Ray Gun Mark 2 became a fan favorite after its debut in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, captivating players with its three-burst design, reliable damage, and absence of splash damage. This time around in Black Ops 6, players can get creative with the gun, opting from three unique variants besides the standard. The SMG version sets enemies ablaze, the shotgun type creates temporary safe zones, and a new Marksman Rifle variant inflicts toxic damage over areas. These variants are a vital aspect of the Shattered Veil experience, and rightfully so, should remain exclusive to it. Nevertheless, the same exclusivity shouldn’t apply to the original Mark 2.
Previously, in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, players welcomed the Ray Gun Mark 2 with open arms—not tied to a single map but unlocked across all maps with the Vengeance pack. This inclusion gave a fresh spin and offered a much-needed boost to maps like Nuketown Zombies among others, always available in the Mystery Box.
This isn’t the first time Treyarch has expanded features across maps. Previously they added the Mule Kick perk to previous maps, enhancing the overall experience. Bringing the Ray Gun Mark 2 into the fold for Black Ops 6 can similarly breathe fresh life into the Mystery Box. In recent games, the Box has lost some of its charm, with players preferring to spawn with their ideal weapons through loadouts and embark on quests for Wonder Weapons. Including the Ray Gun Mark 2, making it accessible on maps like Terminus and Liberty Falls, could reignite enthusiasm for spinning the Box.
Treyarch has a rich history of making fan-pleasing moves and it seems well-poised to do so again. The presence of the Ray Gun Mark 2 on all maps would be a delightful nod to nostalgic players, enriching the game’s arsenal and addressing ongoing fan feedback. Here’s hoping they consider it.
