Last Thursday, anticipation turned into reality as orders for Bigscreen’s new PC VR headset, the Beyond 2, poured in at an astonishing rate. The headset, noted for being exceptionally slim and lightweight, managed to surpass the sales of its predecessor in just a single day—achieving what took the original Beyond headset six entire months.
The initial numbers left many in awe. Within the first 25 minutes, Beyond 2 already outperformed the launch day sales of Beyond 1. It didn’t stop there; within an hour, it had doubled those figures. By the time 10 hours had passed, Beyond 2’s sales figures eclipsed the first four months of sales for Beyond 1.
Sharing more about these remarkable feats, Bigscreen’s founder and CEO, Darshan Shankar, took to X on Friday with the most compelling statistic yet. He revealed, “In the first 24 hours, Beyond 2 has sold 10 times as many units as Beyond 1 did on its launch day two years ago. It achieved in a day what took Beyond 1 six months to sell. That’s truly remarkable.”
In an era dominated by aggressive marketing tactics, Bigscreen’s approach was refreshingly different. Shankar emphasized that the company hadn’t spent a dime on advertising. They refrained from leveraging influencers or producing fancy agency-made videos. Instead, they relied on sheer product appeal and genuine reviews.
While Bigscreen avoided traditional advertising routes, they did strategically place a few early Beyond 2 units into the hands of reviewers. This was a limited release, touching only about ten units, with reviews coming from trusted voices like Tested, Thrillseeker, MRTV, and VR Flight Sim Guy.
If you haven’t caught up with the buzz yet—Beyond 2 is available in two versions: the standard Beyond 2 and the eye-tracking enabled Beyond 2e, priced at $1,019 and $1,219, respectively. Even though the hardware boasts the same dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays as its predecessor, there are significant upgrades that elevate the experience. The standout features include a wider field of view (FOV), thanks to an innovative pancake lens design. This enhancement spans Beyond 2’s diagonal FOV to an impressive 116 degrees, compared to the original’s 102 degrees. Add to this an adjustable interpupillary distance (IPD) and a remarkably lighter design at 107 grams.
Initially, customers expected the first shipments to start in April for Beyond 2 and May for Beyond 2e. However, with the demand surging, new orders are now expected to ship out by June.
