Logitech is set to revitalize its lineup of wireless charging accessories with an enhancement to the Powerplay mouse pad. The new Logitech Powerplay 2 mouse pad presents a cost-effective and sleeker option compared to its predecessor from 2017. It also maintains backwards compatibility with Logitech’s existing Powerplay accessories. While the original version debuted with a price tag of $119.99, the Powerplay 2 will be available for a more affordable $99 when it hits the shelves on March 11.
What makes the Powerplay system stand out in the gaming peripheral market is its ability to continuously charge Logitech’s wireless mice without needing a recharge. This is achieved through a small puck that fits into the mouse’s base, allowing it to draw power wirelessly from the mousepad. The new Powerplay 2 includes a charging puck that is compatible with 10 different Logitech gaming mice models, without adding much weight. Personally, I’ve been using the Logitech G502 X Plus with the original Powerplay pad since 2022, and charging hasn’t crossed my mind even once.
In terms of appearance, the latest Powerplay pad doesn’t stray far from the original design. It’s slightly smaller, with dimensions of 344 x 284 mm compared to the original’s 321 x 344 mm, and is also thinner, resting just 1.3 mm above the desk surface. An improvement is seen in the charging area, which is about 15% larger than before and now powered through a USB-C connection, moving away from the micro-USB found on the first iteration.
Despite the Powerplay 2 only appearing to offer incremental upgrades over its predecessor, I’m genuinely pleased that Logitech is committed to enhancing this unique accessory. It’s a far cry from letting it fall to the wayside like Razer’s brief Hyperflux mouse experience back in 2018.
