The heart of the game lies in its diverse cultures, each with its own unique priorities and beliefs that breathe life into the virtual world. Take the Aedyrans, for example. They’re a nation deeply rooted in concepts of rightful rule, leadership, and order, thrust into the uncharted territories of Eora. You can imagine how they might attempt to fit in with the locals, perhaps modifying their attire or adopting new ways of living. This “Wild West” is a melting pot of different people and backgrounds, and their strict adherence to rules may clash with what survival demands in the Living Lands.
Consider those who primarily worship Woedica, the goddess who embodies law, order, justice, and rightful rulership. These individuals prioritize these values above all else. Meanwhile, for those who revere Abydon, the Smith, it’s not that they dismiss the other deities outright; they simply hold industry, hard work, and dedication in the highest regard. “This approach helps us instill factions and groups with distinctive ideals, making it easy for players to grasp their core values,” explains Patel.
This attention to cultural detail is evident in everything from the architecture to the design of character outfits, both of which feel intimately connected. “This world feels alive, like it’s grown organically over time,” says Lead Environment Artist Dennis Presnell. “Through an iterative process, as team members contribute new assets, concepts, or narrative elements, we build on each other’s work. This collaboration results in an incredibly varied yet cohesive and authentic world.”
