This past Sunday during the Super Bowl, Marvel shelled out a hefty sum to premiere a fresh trailer for the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. With the film hitting theaters in just about three months, the plot remains a bit of a mystery. While a teaser trailer dropped back in September, it didn’t reveal much, and now the new trailer has arrived, pulling the curtain back a little more, though not by much. The trailer’s highlight is a few quick glimpses of Sentry, a character rumored to be making an appearance, portrayed by Lewis Pullman. Those who caught the first trailer might remember him as “Bob,” a character seemingly designed to mislead viewers.
In this latest trailer, Sentry makes only brief appearances wielding his extraordinary powers against the film’s eclectic group of anti-heroes and unsuspecting civilians. Yet, it’s clear that Marvel is playing coy, possibly leading us astray before unveiling a completely different villain for our heroes to battle. This seems entirely plausible, especially since Sentry is a hero in the comic books, pitted against his own nemesis, the Void. Given the trailer’s ominous vibe, don’t be surprised if the Void makes an appearance, considering some roles remain uncredited.
The official synopsis sheds some light, stating, “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and John Walker (Wyatt Russell). Trapped by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), these disillusioned individuals must undertake a perilous mission that forces them to face the darker sides of their pasts. Will this motley crew splinter or find redemption and unite before it’s too late?”
So, we’re still left with more questions than answers. But those intrigued by the unfolding drama can mark their calendars for May 2, when Thunderbolts storms into theaters.
