Yes, you read that right. The PlayStation Network (PSN) is currently down, which means all online services for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 are temporarily out of order. Unfortunately, if you were planning some serious gaming time, it’s going to have to take a backseat for now.
As of now, there’s only one official word on this. It’s from the Ask PlayStation Japan Twitter account. They’ve posted a message (which we’ve translated into English using Twitter’s built-in tool) saying the following:
“At this time, the PlayStation™ Network (including PlayStation® Store) may not be available. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to our customers. We are currently investigating the issue and working to restore service, so please be patient.”
In short, Sony is aware of the situation, but there’s no timeline for when things will be back to normal. We’re left with no choice but to sit tight and wait it out. It’s a bit of a bummer, especially since it’s the weekend. The Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta is on right now, and while Xbox and PC gamers are diving in, PlayStation users are left twiddling their thumbs. Even if you’re not into Wilds, it’s the weekend after all, a time when most people, especially those busy with jobs during the week, get to relax and game. Fingers crossed this downtime wraps up quickly!
