Square Enix has revealed that the upcoming season of Foamstars will be its last. Known as “Party Goes On!”, this final season is set to roll out from December 13, 2024, to January 17, 2025, marking the end of regular seasonal content updates for this multiplayer shooter.
Even though the regular seasonal updates will be phased out, Foamstars isn’t shutting down. Square Enix plans to introduce several new features after this final season wraps up. These enhancements are designed to spice up the gameplay experience, such as the ability to tailor character shots and new enhancement elements. Square Enix reassures players that these updates aim to keep the game engaging for the long haul, hinting that Foamstars will still be around for a while.
Once “Party Goes On!” concludes, the Foamstars Cup will take its place, bringing a fresh series of in-game events. This will replace existing events like Ranked Party Tribe-Vibe and Ranked Party Lonestar with the newly minted Foamstars Cup Freedom League and Foamstars Cup Legend League. Each cup is named after a distinctive Foamstar, offering a rotating schedule every four weeks. Players can earn rewards such as items and icons themed around the featured characters, with these events happening daily.
Furthermore, starting January 17, 2025, players can access previous Foamstars Season Passes. This means both newcomers and veterans have the option to work through select Season Passes at their leisure without any extra charge. However, only the basic Season Pass remains free, while the Premium Pass still carries a cost. There’s also the option to purchase individual tiers within a Season Pass to unlock specific rewards.
Post next season, the challenge system in Foamstars will see some tweaks. The current Limited Time challenges will transition to Event challenges, further split into Daily Challenges—refreshed every day—and Event Challenges—updated every Saturday. Weekly challenges will stay largely unchanged but will start switching out every four weeks instead of five.
Foamstars made its debut in February 2024 on both PS4 and PS5. Initially, its reception was mixed, receiving a metascore of 57 on Metacritic. After its initial release as part of the February 2024 PS Plus monthly lineup, it became available for purchase on the PS Store at $29.99 and later transitioned to a free-to-play model in August.
