Hey everyone! I’m Nobuo Uematsu, and I’m the composer behind Fantasian Neo Dimension.
When Hironobu Sakaguchi, our producer, reached out to me about the Fantasian project, I made the decision that this would be the last video game for which I would individually craft the entire soundtrack. Since it was going to be my concluding full soundtrack project, I knew I had to pour my heart and soul into it. I transformed my office—which was usually filled with playful, unrelated clutter—into what I dubbed “Fantasian mode,” helping me focus my creative energy. The result was several months devoted solely to this endeavor, and I can honestly say, I have no regrets. I truly hope you enjoy Fantasian Neo Dimension, which serves as the grand finale to my 30-plus years of composing for video games!
Today, I’m excited to share with you five of my favorite tracks from the Fantasian Neo Dimension soundtrack.
### 1. Main Theme of Fantasian
Crafting a main theme for a game is always a daunting task. I tackle it with the ambition of creating something better than anything I’ve done before, but when I get too serious about it, progress can be slow. Interestingly, my creativity seems to flourish whenever I let my instincts take over and remind myself, “This is what I’m good at.” This mindset was key in developing the Main Theme of Fantasian.
### 2. Prickle and Clicker’s Theme
Picture a clumsy, outdated robot that’s nowhere near state-of-the-art—a charmingly imperfect character with fragmented speech. These were some of my thoughts while composing this quirky track. It has this delightfully awkward, bumpy vibe, don’t you think?
### 3. Shangri-La
This track holds a special place in my heart. It’s characterized by a scat-style vocalization—“lan lan~♪”—and I’ve always thought it would be great to do a live version with actual lyrics one day.
### 4. God Realm
Can we say music is “proper” only if it features a lovely melody with beautiful chords played in a perfect tone? Conversely, does it become “improper” when the melody feels awkward or the chords sound eerie? Having been in music for so long, I often ponder what truly defines “proper music.”
### 5. Kina (Destiny) [featuring Yuria Miyazono]
It’s amazing how quickly Sakaguchi can whip up song lyrics. Usually, once I finished composing a melody and sent it over, his first draft lyrics would be in my inbox by the next day or so. For this track, though, I believe he wrote the lyrics first, and I composed a melody to complement them. The process for this track was unexpectedly smooth and quick. Also, Yuria Miyazono’s vocals are simply stunning…
Be sure to experience these tracks in-game when Fantasian Neo Dimension releases on the PlayStation Store on December 5, 2024!
