After the triumphant release of Iron Meat back in September, the folks over at Retroware have been diligently charting the future for this modern retro marvel, and they’ve come up with some incredible updates!
Now available on Xbox is the first major update, serving up a delightful array of fresh content ready for eager players to explore.
### Mirror, Mirror
One of the most anticipated new features is the Mirror Mode. This nifty addition lets you replay each level, but with a twist—you’ll be navigating to the left instead! While it might sound simple, this flips the gameplay on its head, presenting new challenges with every enemy, boss, and level. To unlock this feature, all you need to do is complete the game once on any difficulty.
### Red Rapid Fire
Another cool update is the automatic Supercharge upgrade, the third tier in the game’s weapon upgrade system. With this upgrade, your weapons will fire red projectiles, regardless of their former blue or green hues. So, grab another copy of your fully upgraded gun, unleash your Supercharge, and enjoy a rapid-fire experience with impressive red projectiles!
### My 1UPs, Thank You
One of the best improvements in this update is the change to lives. If you manage to finish a level with more lives than you started with, you get to carry them over! That’s right; those extra lives you’ve worked hard to earn will stay with you as you progress.
### Visual Enhancements to Level Backgrounds
We’ve added more narrative depth to some levels by enhancing their backgrounds. These updates include scenes like a helicopter swooping in and firing at Meat monsters in the Forest, spikes added to the midboss in the Base, surviving pilots included in the ending credits, and explosions from Meat meteors on the Train. These subtle touches elevate the game’s storytelling.
### Other Updates
Besides addressing some minor bugs and backend issues, here’s what else we’ve improved:
– Increased damage for the “E”, “U”, and “M” guns.
– Enhanced Meat presence on the Moon Base.
– Refined some patterns in the MI-24 helicopter boss fight for better clarity.
– Made several level sections fairer for players, such as making Meat worms and Meat Mouth Doors in Train killable from the start.
We’re thrilled to share this glimpse into what lies ahead for Iron Meat, and we’re planning to unleash even more content in future updates!
