Last summer, EA stirred up excitement by announcing that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor would make its way to last-gen consoles, after initially being exclusive to the current-gen. With the game’s launch on PS4 and Xbox One just around the corner on September 17, Respawn and EA have shared some intriguing details along with new gameplay footage.
Back in 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was introduced to gamers on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. This sequel to 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order continued to follow the thrilling adventures of former Jedi Cal Kestis and his eclectic crew as they battled against the Empire. The game was lauded with rave reviews and numerous awards, making it a standout hit. Now, we finally have a sneak peek of how it performs on the PS4 Pro.
EA recently unveiled five minutes of gameplay footage showcasing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor running on the PS4 Pro. In this preview, various scenes of combat and exploration are displayed, and I have to say, I’m genuinely impressed with how seamlessly this last-gen version seems to operate.
Naturally, adapting the game to run on the PS4 Pro and other older consoles wasn’t without its challenges and means some compromises compared to the high-end current-gen versions. The most notable trade-off is in framerate. Respawn has confirmed that the versions for PS4, PS4 Pro, Xbox One, and Xbox One X are capped at 30FPS, with no 60FPS option available.
Here are the official resolution and performance goals for each platform, as detailed by EA and Respawn:
- PS4 Pro: 1080p at 30FPS
- Xbox One X: 1440p at 30FPS
- PS4: 900p at 30FPS
- Xbox One: 720p at 30FPS
These targets seem reasonable given the hardware’s capabilities and age. Still, I would recommend steering clear of the Xbox One version. The game is visually stunning even at 1080p, and playing it at a reduced 720p/30FPS would detract from the experience of this fantastic Star Wars journey.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be available on PS4 and Xbox One starting September 17, and it’s priced at an affordable $50.
